Betty Opal Shannon, 89, of Westwood, Kentucky, widow of Walter Shannon, died peacefully at her home, Sunday evening, June 21, while under hospice care.
Betty was born April 4, 1931 in Ashland, Kentucky a daughter of the late James and Nancy Callihan Huguenot. She was a retired secretary with the Fairview Board of Education having spent many years at Pine Acres Elementary School and the new Fairview Elementary School.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by three brothers: James, Ford, and Davis Huguenot, and three sisters: Erma Kirk, Patricia Spears, and Carolyn Thompson.
Surviving include three daughters: Vicky Willis and husband Roy, of Nicholasville; Sidney Anderson of Russell; Kathy Gillum and husband James of Westwood; five grandchildren: Andrew Anderson, Hobie Anderson, Taylor Anderson, Dawn Willis, Tiffany Cecil; eight great grandchildren: Hunter, Logan, Haiden, Silas, Carlysle, Asher, Trinity, Isaac, and great great grandchildren Grayson and Ashton.
Graveside services were Wednesday, June 24 at Ashland Cemetery by Bro. Jim Smedley. Arrangements are under the direction of Preston Family Funeral Home.
