Members Choice CU has won in Kentucky for the Wayne R. Woodward in Action Award for credit unions. The Wayne R. Woodward Philosophy in Action Award, sponsored by the Kentucky Credit Union League, was established to formally recognize an individual, group of individuals or organization that by act or deed, above and beyond the norm, personifies the credit union philosophy of "People Helping People."
Members Choice CU's entry detailed its MCCU@Work program. The program represents an institutional culture where their staff is committed to taking a hands-on approach to creating beneficial change in the locales MCCU serves. From 2017-2020, employees have dedicated over 2,000 hours volunteering for local nonprofits and community organizations within MCCU's membership field.
Over the past four years, MCCU employees have combined their volunteer hours with internal fundraising as part of MCCU@Work, raising over $16,000 through giving campaigns just among staff (with an average of a little over $290 per person, per year).
Employees are so passionate to help others that they took the initiative to establish an MCCU Employee Benevolence Fund in 2019. This Fund has already raised $8,000 and made grants to 19 individuals and organizations in need.
Members Choice CU won first place in the 250 million - $1 billion in assets category for Ken-tucky and was recognized at the Kentucky Credit Union League's Annual Meeting, and Convention held virtually on August 27-28, 2020. At the state level, credit unions are divided into four categories based on asset size, and winners are then selected from each of the categories.
Cheryl Deborde, President, and CEO of Members Choice CU, said of the honor, "This is a tremendous reward for our staff to receive the top honor for this category. Our staff embodies what every credit union aims to achieve together as they serve their members and communities. We are pleased to recognize our staff for their efforts."
