I am sure we are all familiar with the story of the “Holy Grail” … you know that mythical cup that King Arthur and his knights sought after because it held great power? For anyone on a school academic team, there is a cup of equal importance… the Regional Governor’s Cup! It was an all-out battle of the brains as students, coaches, and spectators gathered inside Russell High School’s Library for the 2023 Regional Governor’s Cup with the one goal in mind to walk away with the 16th Region title. Twelve schools from all across the sixteenth region competed and showed everyone just what they were made of--pure grit, determination, and a level of intelligence that most could only dream about. Students competed in the quick recall, future problem solving, mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, arts and humanities, and composition categories. It was Ashland Paul G. Blazer High School that quickly took the lead and ultimately the Governor’s Cup 16th Region Title with an overall score of 51.5. Russell was hot on their tails coming in second with an overall score of 33 and Boyd County High School came in third with an overall score of 22.
