Reliford Appointed New Principal at Cannonsburg Elementary

Cannonsburg Elementary School has just received a truly wonderful asset among its educational ranks. Christy Reliford, a former graduate of Fairview High School, has just been given the opportunity of a lifetime. Reliford will serve as Cannonsburg Elementary School’s newest principal this fall. Reliford is a graduate of Morehead State University with a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in both Elementary Education and Special Education.
While on her journey to further her education, Reliford earned her Master of Arts in Teacher Leadership back in 2018 while she attended Morehead State University. Since then, Reliford has not only completed her certification in Instructional Leadership for Principal Level I and Level II, but she has also earned her Rank 1, Director of Pupil Personnel, and Supervisor of Instruction in May 2023.
Reliford began her career in the educational system many years ago as an instructional assistant at Oakview Elementary School. She served as an instructional assistant in EBD for over eight years while completing her teaching degree. Reliford continued to climb the ranks of the educational system and then found herself at the Raceland-Worthington Independent School District where she taught for one year. It wasn’t until 2018 that Reliford was hired by the Boyd County Public School System where she has served as a teacher at Boyd County Middle School. If you ask any student, parent, or fellow faculty about Reliford, you will hear how she takes a sincere and caring approach when it comes to teaching. She is a highly qualified, compassionate, and down-to-earth educator who truly is a diamond in the rough because she not only educates her students, she makes them feel understood and valued.
After serving the Boyd County Public School System for the past five years, Reliford is looking forward to this new chapter in her life and is excited about being given the opportunity to return to her roots of elementary school education. Reliford remarked, “I am very thankful for this opportunity and cannot wait to get started working with the faculty, staff, students, and parents of Cannonsburg Elementary School.”
The faculty, staff, teachers, students, and parents of Cannonsburg Elementary School are just as excited to welcome Principal Reliford to its ranks and look forward to a welcomed change and the plethora of knowledge and experience that Reliford can bring to the table. Being an educator for over fifteen years, Reliford has certainly learned how to successfully implement any plan for growth and development within the classroom. Reliford shared she has always had a growth mindset and knows that she is going to encounter many more learning opportunities ahead of her. “I cannot wait to begin my journey as the principal of Cannonsburg Elementary,” Reliford declared.
