Russell Outlasts Ashland for 63rd District Championship

Eva Blanke gave the Lady Devils and early 1-0 lead on an assist by Emma Stamper in the 63rd District Championship game against Ashland. Ava Quinn tied the score at 2-2 after Ashland netted two early goals in the second half. Both teams battled for two overtimes before Russell’s Gabby Williams’ penalty kick gave the Lady Devils a 6-5 lead in the shootout and eventual 3-2 win over Ashland. Williams also tallied seven saves in the net.
Russell awaits the winner of West Carter and Rowan County in the first semifinal Wednesday night at Ashland High School.
ASHLAND 15-4
Ashland defeated Boyd County, 3-1 in the opening round of the 63rd District Tournament before falling to Russell in the championship, 3-2 in shootout fashion.
Kylee Fields, Milei Baker and Kenleigh Woods netted goals in the win over Boyd. Baker had an assist. Mallorie Caudill tallied four saves in the net.
Woods netted both goals in the loss to Russell. Meisha Salisbury added an assist. Caudill had 11 saves.
Ashland meets Fleming County Monday night in the opening round of the 16th Region Tournament at Ashland High School.
BOYD COUNTY 9-7
Boyd County closed its season with a 3-1 loss to Ashland in the opening round of the 63rd District Tournament. Kathleen McKay had a goal and Aubrey Moore assisted. Sophia Stevens finished with 12 saves in the goal.
GREENUP COUNTY 2-15
Greenup County closed its season with an 8-0 loss to East Carter in the opening round of the 62nd District Tournament. No stats were reported in the loss.
