BOYS 64th DISTRICT TOURNAMENT

 

CHAMPIONSHIP

 

BOYD COUNTY 56 ASHLAND 55 OVERTIME

 

Boyd County needed every second available in the 64th District Championship. The Lions and Tomcats were tied at 48 in regulation and  a Jacob Spurlock triple with eight seconds left in the extra period gave Boyd County a 56-55 win. 

Spurlock led the Lions with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Jason Ellis kicked in 12. Zander Carter led the Tomcats with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Nate Freize finished with 10 points and 10 boards. Braxton Jennings added 10 points. 

Boyd County meets East Carter Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. in the opening round of the 16th Region Tournament. Ashland will play Greenup County Thursday night at 8 p.m.

OPENING ROUND

 

ASHLAND 73 FAIRVIEW 48

Ashland defeated Fairview 73-48 in the opening round of the 64th District Tournament. Carter paced the Tomcats with 19 points. Freize added 14. Asher Adkins finished with 10. Steven Day led the Eagles with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Tamel Smith had 15 points. 

Fairview closes its season at 8-23.

BOYS 63rd DISTRICT TOURNAMENT

 

CHAMPIONSHIP

 

GREENUP COUNTY 59 RUSSELL 42

Greenup County raced out to a 7-0 lead and held off several Russell runs to claim the Musketeers first district championship since 2017 in a 59-42, wire-to-wire victory over the Red Devils. 

Bryson Chandley led the Musketeers with 20 points and eight rebounds. Eli Adkins had 12. Kasey Gammon finished with 11. Caleb Rimmer led the Devils with 17 points. Elijah Neel had 11. 

Greenup will meet Ashland on Thursday at 8 p.m. in the opening round of the 16th Region Tournament. Russell plays Rowan County Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the opening round. 

GREENUP COUNTY 61 LEWIS COUNTY 29

 

Greenup never trailed Lewis in the opening round of the 63rd District Tournament and rolled to a 61-29 win. Gammon led the way with 20 points and went 4 for 8 from downtown. Chandley had 12. Bradley Adkins finished with 10. 

RUSSELL 64 RACELAND 53

After volleying the lead for much of the first quarter, Russell grabbed control and never turned loose the rest of the way to roll to a 64-53 win over Raceland. 

Rimmer led the Devils with 25 points and 18 rebounds. Neel added 16 points. Tatum Fleming kicked in 11. 

Connor Thacker paced the Rams with 18 points and 14 points. Christian Large added 14. 

Raceland closed its season 16-15.
