Shirley Ann Murnahan

   Shirley Ann Murnahan, 83, of Ashland, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021.

   She was born June 15, 1937, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Orville and Bertha Mae Hamm Armstrong. Following Shirley’s mothers death, she was raised by her loving aunt and uncle, Pearl and Jesse Smith. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Hutchinson; and brothers, Bob Armstrong, Okie Armstrong, and Curtis Armstrong.

   Shirley was a 1955 graduate of Ashland High School and retired following a long career with National City Bank. She was an avid fan of Elvis, the Ashland Tomcats, UK Basketball, and Cincinnati Reds Baseball.

   Shirley loved nothing more than the sand under her toes, sun on her skin and the smiles on her grandchildren’s faces.

   Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 63 years, Paul Murnahan of Ashland; daughters, Teri Murnahan of Ashland; Tracy (Tina Stegman) Murnahan of Cincinnati, OH, and Kricket (Brent Rice) Murnahan of Cincinnati, OH; beloved grandchildren, Elliott and Oliver Murnahan Stegman and Iris Ann Rice; brothers, Cecil, Jim, Carroll Lee, Calvin and Keith Armstrong; and a extended family and dear friends. Shirley was loved by many and will be missed by all.

   A celebration of Shirley’s life was Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel with Chaplain Jimm Smedley officiating.

Samantha Louise Burke Porter

   Samantha Louise Burke Porter, 83, of Wurtland, KY, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at Best Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wheelersburg, OH.

   Mrs. Porter was born September 15, 1937, in Ashland, KY to the late Hillman and Nolda Mae Jordan Burke.

   In addition to her parents, Samantha was preceded in death by two sons, Mark and Stephen Porter and a sister, Garnet Hughes. Mrs. Porter was a homemaker and attended the Community Tabernacle in Raceland, KY.

   Samantha is survived by a son, Tim (Susie) Porter of Boyd, KY; a daughter, LaBreeska (Jesse) Adams of Wurtland, KY; thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Jamie Shaw of Walton, KY; two sisters, Ruby Short of De Graff, OH and Janet Barker Flatwoods; and a host of extended family and friends.

   A graveside service was held March 8, at Rosehill Burial Park Chapel in Ashland with Rev. Rick Evans officiating.

Bobby Willilams Hanners-Davis

   Bobby William Hanners-Davis, 49, of Ashland, died peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, March 2, 2021.

   He was born January 6, 1972, in Springfield, Ohio, a son of the late Gary Lee Hanners and Tonna Lou Lambert Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Lee Hanners, Jr.

   Bobby was a graduate of Fairview High School and worked as a General Manager at McDonalds.

   Survivors include his husband, ClarDarian Davis-Hanners; and a brother, Shane Brown; he is also survived by a host of extended family members and dear friends.

   Bobby will be laid to rest next to his mother, in Rose Hill Burial Park.

   Arrangements have been entrusted to Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel.

Pamela Rebecca Tipton

   Pamela Rebecca Tipton, 73, of Summit, wife of Donald Tipton, died Saturday, March 6, at her home while under hospice care. 

   Pam was born July 16, 1947 in Charleston, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Shirley Edward and Patsy Haynes. 

   Surviving, in addition to her husband, Don, include a son, Thomas Robbins Tipton and wife Stacie of Greer, South Carolina; daughter Jennifer Robyn Van Hoose and husband Dan of Ashland; brother Eddie Haynes of St. Albans, West Virginia, and four grandchildren.  

   At Pam's request, there will be no services.  Arrangements are under the direction of Preston Family Funeral Home.


Sandra G. Kimbler

   Sandra G. Kimbler, of Waterford, passed on February 28, 2021 at age 82. 

She was the beloved wife of the late Donald, who preceded her in death in2018; mother of Scott (Bethany) Crisp, the late Jeff Crisp, Teresa (Tony) Liberatore and Vicki Kimbler. Sandra was also the sister of Steve (Shari) Wells, Carol Miller and preceded in death by Ron Wells, Phillip Wells, Dick Wells, Janet Cordial and Jack Hillard. 

   She was a beloved grandmother of Nichole (Matt) Brown, Chloe Cabral, Madison Carter and Antonio Liberatore; great-grandmother of Mya Brown, Ava Cabral, Ariana Cabral and Gage Kohler. Mrs. Kimbler was retired from General Motors Truck and Bus. 

   Funeral services were Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood.

Audrey Goodman

   Audrey Faye Ensor Goodman, 86, of Ashland, passed away on March 1, 2021, following an extended illness.

   Audrey was born on December 24, 1934, in Ashland, the daughter of the late Audley and Eula C. Ensor.

   Audrey grew up in Westwood and graduated in 1952 from Ashland High School. Following graduation, Audrey worked at Armco Steel Corporation, Citigroup Financial Services and retired from Wells Fargo. Enjoying her years as a homemaker, Audrey loved tending her roses and working in her yard, walking the mall, and having lunch with her friends. She attended the First United Methodist Church in Ashland, where she was previously responsible for communion preparation, working on the bulletin committee, and serving at the food festival.

   In addition to her parents, Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, William S. Goodman. She is survived by a cousin, DeWitt Goodman of Dayton, Ohio and by her companion of many years, Bob Prichard (Old Bob).

   A private graveside service will be held for Audrey at Ashland Cemetery. For those who wish to remember Audrey in a special way, donations to the Food Pantry at First United Methodist Church will be lovingly accepted.

Pauline "Penny" Wuerdeman

   Pauline "Penny" Weight Wuerdeman, formerly of Ashland, peacefully passed away at the age of 95 on March 5, 2021 in Titusville, Florida. She was born on May 3, 1925 to Clarence Deck and Beatrice Sharp Weight and grew up in Virginia and Ashland.

   Penny graduated from Ashland High School and the University of Kentucky. She was society editor of the Ashland Daily Independent for several years after graduation. She also was a member of the Junior Women's Club, the Association of University Women and Calvary Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday School, was a member of St Elizabeth Guild and served as president of the Episcopal Church Women's organization.

   She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Beatrice Weight; her husband, Thomas Lee Wuerdeman; her sister, Beatrice Matthews; and her brothers, Clay "Deck" Weight and Donald Weight.

   She is survived by her daughter Anne Pulley (Marc) of Clearwater, Florida; son Thomas Adam "Tod" Wuerdeman (Brenda) of Mims, Florida; granddaughter Emily Rupe (Charles); and great-grandchildren, Lorna and Wesley.

   Due to public health concerns and weather, there are no immediate plans for a memorial.
