Robert Leo Stowe, III


   Robert Leo Stowe, III, 68, of Ashland, passed away at his residence on Monday, February 15, 2021.

   He was born November 9, 1953, in Ashland, Kentucky, a son of the late Robert Leo Stowe, Jr. and Elizabeth Kneer Stowe.

   Robert was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Ashland. He graduated from Holy Family Catholic School and Ashland Vocational School. He worked as a Draftsman at Calgon Corp., briefly at Walmart and was currently employed with Kroger Fuel Center.

   Those left to cherish his memory include his siblings, Carol Ann Stowe Hood (Joseph), James Patrick Stowe (Deb), Kathy Lee Stowe (Ann), Mary Elizabeth Stowe Columbus (James), and Michael Kneer Stowe (Catherine); two nephews, nine nieces, four grand nephews, two grand nieces; and a host of extended family members and dear friends.

   A private entombment was held at Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.

   Arrangements have been entrusted to Steen Funeral Homes.

William Proctor Short

   William Proctor Short, 89, of Flatwoods, KY, passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, KY.

   Mr. Short was born on June 27, 1931, in Boyd County, KY to the late William Albert and Ruth Maxine Salyers Short.

   In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his son, William Perry Short; a daughter, Melessa Short; and several brothers and sisters.

   Mr. Short was a U.S. Airforce Veteran and worked at the car shops as a Blacksmith for C&O Railroad. He coached baseball for multiple teams for many years and attended the First Baptist Church in Flatwoods, KY. William was an avid Kentucky Wildcats fan and enjoyed playing the mandolin for the Crisp family. William loved sharing the gospel thru his music.

   Mr. Short is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Reba Rice Short of Flatwoods; three daughters, Vanessa (Gilbert) Coleman of Ashland, Martha (Dudley) Barker of Raceland, Reba Kay Nolan of Ashland; a daughter-in-law, Arlene Short of Raceland; nine grandchildren: Bettina Grubb, William Ashley Short, Stephanie Hicks, Mandy Hughes, James Anderson, Samantha Melvin, Anna Barker, David Nolan, and Amber Nolan; several great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, and extended family and friends.

   A funeral service was Monday, March 22, 2021, at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, with Pastor James Nichols and Bro. Dave Daniels officiating. Burial followed at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Russell.

Bertha M. Click

   Bertha Mae Click, “Ms. Click” as she was known to many, passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at the Hospice Care Center in Ashland. She was 95. Ms. Click was born January 11, 1926 in Ashland, one of seven children born to the late William and Mary Ann Martin Menshouse. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Harry Click, brothers William, Roger and Charlie Menshouse, sisters Pearl Golden, Louise Mayse and Sally Menshouse and a son-in-law Eugene Preston.

   Ms. Click was a lifelong resident of Ashland. She and her late husband Harry spent some years in the Chicago area seeking employment like many people of this area had to do. Returning to Ashland some years later, Harry went to work with Semet Solvay and together they raised their family here. Ms. Click was a loving homemaker and they attended Unity Baptist Church.

   Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters Sandra Preston of Ashland, Virginia “Ginny” Rearden and husband Edward of Ashland, grandchildren Keith (Earlene) Preston, Eddie (Larin) Rearden, Matthew (Jodi) Rearden, Rebecca (Shane) Rearden, great grandchildren Ashley (John) Daniels, Destinee Rearden, Tyler Rose, Alexis Payne, Alexandria Payne, Mason Rearden, Cole Rearden, Raegan Barham, Draven Tackett, great-great grandchildren Emma Bobo, Wyatt Daniels, Troy Daniels, Tillian Rodman and a baby girl due here in June. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members and good friends.

   Graveside funeral services were Monday, March 22, 2021 at the Ashland Cemetery. Brother John Crawford delivered words of comfort to those attending.

Sharon Rose Miller Hensley 

   Sharon Rose Miller Hensley, 74, of Ashland, wife of William “Bill” Hensley, passed peacefully to her Heavenly home, with her family by her side, Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

   Sharon was born January 24, 1947 in Ashland to the late Basil Dale and Louise Barker Miller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Lonny Miller.

   Sharon was a faithful member of Grandview Church of God. For 28 years Sharon provided childcare to many kids in the area. Over that time, she took care of 82 kids and was affectionately known as Ms. Sharon by the kids and parents. At one time she even took care of 13 kids at one time. Ms. Sharon was known for her sweet and loving heart.

   Sharon leaves behind her loving husband of 55 years William Ray Hensley; two sons William Dale Hensley (Heather) and Steven Aaron Hensley both of Ashland; one brother Dale “Rick” Miller (Donna) of Ashland; a sister-in-law Sandra Workman of South Point, Ohio; two grandchildren Isabel Hensley and Koen Hensley along with a host of extended family and friends.

   Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 22, 2021 at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood with Pastor Trey Parsons and Pastor Danny Goins officiating. Burial followed in Ashland Cemetery.

Louise Short Salyers 


   Louise Short Salyers, 93, of Flatwoods, KY, passed away on Monday, March 15, 2021, at Oakmont Manor in Flatwoods.

   Mrs. Salyers was born, March 31, 1927, in Ashland, KY, to the late John A. and Minervah Kirk Short.

   In addition to her parents, Mrs. Salyers was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Salyers and several brothers and sisters.

   Louise was a cook at Russell High School in Russell, and a custodian at Advance Elementary in Flatwoods. She enjoyed sewing, making quilts, and going to church. Louise attended Community Tabernacle Church in Flatwoods.

   Mrs. Louise is survived by her son, Clifton (Judy) Salyers of Flatwoods; three grandchildren, Mark Salyers, Barb (Rusty) Scott, and Terry (Cathy) Henry; five great-grandchildren, Mason Salyers, Nick (Sara) Scott, Ashli (Micah) Bowling, Austin (Bailey) Pemberton, and April Pemberton; three great-great-grandchildren, Jase Bowling, Mercy Bowling, and Brynlee Pemberton; and a host of extended family and friends.

   A funeral service was held on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, with Bro. J.R. Hampton officiating. Burial followed at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Russell.
