Phyllis Lewis Profitt 

   Phyllis Lewis Profitt, 85, of Westwood, passed away peacefully, May 5, 2021.

   Phyllis was born December 2, 1935, to the late Foraker and Elma Parker Lewis and was a lifelong resident of Westwood.

   The eldest of six children, two of which are still living, Charles Lewis and Kay Manning, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Earl Profitt, Jr., brothers Foraker Lewis, Jr., Harold Lewis, and James Lewis.

   Surviving is son David E. (Pamela) Profitt; grandchildren David L. (Leanna) and Lesley-Anne Pennington (Lance), and three great-grandsons: Miles, Lincoln and Fischer. 

   To those of her generation, Phyllis and husband, Earl, will always be remembered for their years of owning the Dollhouse Restaurant in Westwood in the 1950s and 60s. Providing a safe haven primarily for teenagers, the Dollhouse offered a unique variety of entertainment, pinball machines, shuffleboard, a jukebox, dancing, and miniature golf. 

   Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 11 at Caniff Funeral Home, Westwood, with Brad Profitt officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m, Tuesday, prior to service. Burial will follow service at Dixon Cemetery, Westwood.

 

Charles G. Grant

   Charles G. Grant, 83, of Sebring, FL., formerly of Ironton, OH, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday May 1, 2021 in Lake Wales, FL. Charlie was born June 2, 1937 in Huntington, WV, a son of the late Ira and Velva Jewel Washington Grant. In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years Betty Grant, a son Ron Grant, a son-in-law Steve Davidson, brothers Clay Grant, Jr, Paul Grant, Tom Grant, sisters Joyce Chaney, Doris McDaniel and Betty Gillespie.

   Charlie owned and operated various Giovanni’s Pizza Restaurants. He attended Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Sebring and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Ironton. Charlie was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking for family and friends. He loved to play cards and dominos. He served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps. Those who knew Charlie will forever remember how he loved to pray and his powerful testimony, he surely will be missed by many.

   Those left to cherish his memory include his children Gary Grant of Boynton Beach, FL, David (Debbie) Grant of Ironton, Chuck Grant of Kings Mountain, KY, daughters Lynne (Art) Shea of Surprise, AZ, Laura Grant Davidson of Ashland, Lisa (Rob) Richardson of Lexington, his wife Sherolyn Daniels Grant of Sebring and her children Barry Daniels, Frank Daniels, Deana Probisco, his brother Jack Grant, his sisters Nancy Lemaster, Charlotte Roach, Judy Clatworthy, Marian Harrah, Sharon McCaw, 12 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and a host of extended family and good friends.

   Funeral services were held Friday, May 7, 2021 at the Steen Funeral Home 13th St. Chapel by Pastor Matt O’Bryant. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Huntington, WV, with full military honors by members of the American Legion Post 93 and the United States Marine Corps.

Kathy Barnett

   Kathy Ann Barnett, 65, of Ashland, was born on March 10, 1956 and returned to her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 5, 2021. Her parents, Herbert and Maxine Stewart White as well as brother Curtis White, preceded her in death.

   Kathy was a member of Wildwood Baptist Church. She spent her life in dedication to her family. Her favorite memories were of the many family get togethers for holidays and events. Kathy was a great wife, mother, sister, and grandmother to her family.

   Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 43 years, Danny Barnett of Ashland; sons, Danny Barnett, II, of West Palm Beach, FL, and Aaron (Misty) Barnett of Ashland; daughter, Nina Crum of Ashland; brothers, Timothy White, Wendell White and Jeff White; sister, Linda Jarvis; grandchildren, Shelbi, Andrew, Ema, Troy, and Tristan Barnett; and a host of extended family members and dear friends.

   The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel with words of comfort provided by Pastor Tom Leach. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Following the burial on Tuesday, there will be a Celebration of Kathy’s life at Wildwood Baptist Church, 3414 Charles Street, Ashland, KY, 41102.

Terri Lynn Brewer

   Terri Lynn Brewer, 59, of Flatwoods, KY, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021, surrounded by her loved ones.

   Ms. Brewer was born on July 9, 1961, in Russell, to Sonja Chaffin Brewer of Flatwoods, and the late Charles Armco Brewer. In addition to her father, Ms. Brewer was preceded in death by a brother, Mark Anthony Brewer.

   Terri worked in the food industry for years. She was employed at Russell Primary School as a cook as well as FoodFair and Giovanni’s Pizza. Terri enjoyed crafts and loved collecting carousels. She attended Shawnee Church of God in Flatwoods.

   In addition to her parents, Ms. Brewer is survived by her two loving daughters, Samantha Jane Howell and Sarah Lynn Howell, both of Flatwoods, and their father, David Samuel Howell of Westwood; a brother, Charles “Greg” (Ruth Ann) Brewer of Flatwoods; and sister Kathy (Gary) Dyer Wenneker of Ohio.

Christopher Nelson Brewer 

   Christopher Nelson Brewer, 26, of Westwood passed away Sunday, May 2, 2021.

   Chris was born January 19, 1995 in Ashland to Jeff Nelson Brewer and Sherry Lynn Jenkins Brewer.

   Chris was a 2013 graduate of Fairview High School. At Fairview, he excelled at football and was a member of the 2012 state runner up football team. He was one of the all-time rushers in school history, having rushed more than 4,200 yards. He was a member of the 2012 All-State team, All-Region and All-Area teams both in defense and offense. He loved to draw, play video games and was also a talented musician and could play any instrument he picked up. He even wrote songs with his best friend, David LaReau. 

   He was preceded in death by grandparents Carolyn Jenkins and Don and Carol Brewer and a son, Bentley Nelson Brewer.

   He leaves behind his parents, Jeff Nelson Brewer of Greenup and Sherry Lynn Jenkins Brewer of Westwood; daughter Serenity Rainn Brewer; and brothers Jeffrey Brewer and Travis Scarberry.

   Funeral services were May 7 at Caniff Funeral Home. Burial followed at Brewer Cemetery. Katherine Marie Collins

   Katherine Collins, 61, of Ashland, wife of Gale Collins, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 5. 

   Katherine was born December 28, 1959 in Ashtabula, Ohio, a daughter of the late Lloyd and Arlene Fenton Hughart. She was a member of Clyffeside Worship in Ashland and dearly loved her church family. 

   Katherine was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by a brother, Donald Hughart, Sr., and sisters Janet Coy and Florence ‘Cookie’ Cedoz.  Surviving, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Elizabeth (Dee Jay) Hicks of Ashland; stepson Jeff (Barbara) Hopkins of Hiram, Ohio; brother Lloyd ‘Junie’ Hughart of Ohio; three grandchildren and a great grandchild. 

   Funeral services were Monday, May 10 at Preston Family Funeral Home by Rev. Dwayne Young. 

 

Norman Carl Eggleston

   Norman “Norm” Eggleston, 83, of Ashland, KY, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, May 5. 

   Norm is survived by his wife Carolyn of 64 years, daughter Gina Dickens, daughter Kelly (Chuck) Bustetter, son Todd (Julie) Eggleston, and daughter Jaime (Bradley) Daugherty, grandchildren Lee, Malina, Alivia, Max and Reese, and great grandchildren Liam, Nora and Mila. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Alvin Eggleston, his twin brother Eugene and brother Robert Mascal, and his infant daughter, Kimberly Ann. 

   Norm was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1957-1963. He spent the majority of his professional career with Owens Brockway Illinois. Norm loved golf and spent his “retirement” working as a greenskeeper on the golf course at The Oaks in Ashland. Norm loved the outdoors and he shared that love with his children and grandchildren.He liked to fish but he loved to hunt and the only thing that made him happier than taking a buck was when his son, sons in law or grandson got to take one.

James "Bud" Lemaster

   James “Bud” Lemaster, 75, of Ashland, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2021. Bud was born December 10, 1945 in Louisa, son of the late Ben and Irene Caudill Lemaster. In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his sister Elaine Messer, brother Ben Donald Lemaster and stepson Steve Vanhorn.

   Bud worked at the Nickel Plant before a long career as a lineman. He worked for Hinkle & McCoy, H&H Communications of Somerset and GTE, Alltel and Verizon. Bud attended Catlettsburg South Side Nazarene Church.

   Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 44 years Hope Jacobs Lemaster, his daughter Amanda (Jeremy Baldridge) Lemaster and son Eli of Ashland, his son Billy Joe (Katelyn) Jacobs of Ashland, a stepdaughter Brenda Webb of Catlettsburg, brothers Harold (Pat) Lemaster, Dewey (Karen) Lemaster, sisters Benetta Pack, Phyllis (the late Bill) Sturgill, grandson Mason James Lemaster and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Brian Ray Thompson

   Brian Thompson, 56, of Ashland, formerly of Westwood, died Thursday, May 6, at his home. 

   Brian was born November 4, 1964 in Ashland, a son of the late Elmer and Wilma Ritchie Thompson.  He was a construction laborer and enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting. 

   Brian was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by siblings Wayne Thompson and Rhonda Copley. He is survived by two sisters: Kathy Gilbert and Marilyn Lucas. 

   A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Preston Family Funeral Home.

 

Bobby Slone

   Bobby Gordon Slone, 80, formerly of Ashland, currently residing in Palm Bay, Florida, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 27th in the VITAs Hospice House. Bob was born October 27, 1940 to the late Benjamin “Frank” Slone and Rosie Middleton Slone.

   Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carole Ann Slone. Surviving are his two sons, Robert (Kasey) Slone of Florida and Michael (Deanna) Slone of Georgia. Grandchildren: Erin (FL), Brooke (FL) and Chase Slone (GA.) Great Grandchildren: Colton and Laila; and Sister, Phyllis Jean Armstrong of Ashland. Bob spent his career working as a Crane Operator for Armco Steel and was an avid sports fan.

   Funeral Services were held Friday, May 7, 2021 at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel. Entombment followed in Ashland Cemetery.

Marty Andrew Rogers

   On Wednesday, May 5, 2021, Marty Andrew Rogers, of Ashland, loving father, son and brother passed away at the age of 41.

   He was born October 16, 1979, in Revenna, Ohio a son of Leneva Spears Rogers of South Point, Ohio and the late Wallace Carl Rogers.

   Marty was a “jack of all trades” and was involved in many different occupations. His life and love of sports was known by everyone. He especially enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Stealers, Cincinnati Reds, UK Basketball and Ashland youth sports. His greatest pride were his children. He loved nothing more than spending time with them.

   Those left to cherish his memory include his three children, Shelbi Barnett, Andrew Barnett and Emaleigh Barnett; his mother, Leneva Rogers; siblings, Matthew Rogers, Michael Rogers, Mark Rogers and Michelle Rogers.

Wanda Jean Maynard

   Wanda Jean Maynard, 93, of Ashland, Kentucky, died Friday morning, May 7, at Woodland Oaks while under hospice care. 

   Wanda was born July 16, 1927 in Ironton, Ohio, a daughter of the late Burlin and Cleo Smith Oney.  She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband; Norwood Maynard; daughter Elizabeth Nealis; and son William Maynard. Surviving include son Robert Maynard of Chesapeake, Ohio.

   A private burial will be in the Ashland Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Preston Family Funeral Home.
