Live music, discounts, and Santa can only mean one thing, Christmas in the Arcade. The event, which began several years ago, will be back Dec. 15, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“I started Christmas in the Arcade a while back,” owner of La Tee Da’s Cathy Fraley said. “Ashland in Motion started the shop local event so it went on a little bit of a break but it’s back this year.”

During the Christmas at the Arcade event, shoppers will be able to enter the Camayo Arcade in downtown Ashland and Shop till they drop, buying all sorts of locally made products from locally owned stores.

“We love the Ashland in Motion event, but we need there to be more than one day for people to buy local,” Fraley said.

Along with shopping, guests will be able to hear their favorite holiday tunes sung by an a capella group on the second floor of the arcade.

“It’s going to be a wonderful time,” Fraley said.

Fraley encourages shoppers to visit the Camayo Arcade this holiday season and receive service that can’t be found at the big retail stores.

“For the most part we know our products, we know the sizes and we can help anyone with a more personal shopping experience,” Fraley said. “Not only do you get that experience, but shopping local also helps out the local economy and your neighbors.”

With growing success at the arcade, almost every available space hosts a locally owned business inside. “Perry has done a great job making this building thrive,” Fraley said.

Throughout the Christmas in the Arcade event, stores will host several sales and be ready to serve the shopping community.

“Each time we have done it, it has grown,” Fraley said. “We hope to continue it in years to come and keep growing.

Fraley remembered a time when the Camayo Arcade, along with downtown Ashland, was the place to be during the holiday season. She recollected shopping downtown with her parents, and it always being a special treat going into the Camayo Arcade.

“This was the shopping destination when I was younger,” Fraley said. “I would love to see this place become that once again.”

Christmas in the Arcade is slated for Dec. 15 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
