ASHLAND 5-1

   Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Ashland only saw the court once this week, but the Tomcats continued their winning ways with an 89-68 win over Robertson County to push the winning streak to five. Ethan Sellars led the Tomcats with 23 points. He went 10 of 14 from the field and was 3 of 5 from long range. Colin Porter added 22 while going 10 of 13 from the field. Cole Villers netted 15. Zander Carter went 4 of 6 from downtown for 12 points. 

   Ashland returns to the court Tuesday with a district tilt against Rose Hill. Ashland welcomes Bourbon County Thursday and travels to Boyd County Saturday. 

 

BOYD COUNTY 7-2

   A busy week for the Lions produced three wins while running their current winning streak to six games. Boyd County knocked off Lawrence County, Rose Hill and Montgomery County in its trio of games. 

   Rheyce Deboard led Boyd County with 22 points while going 6 of 7 from downtown in a 76-67 win over Lawrence County. Austin Gibbs kicked in 16. Carson Webb had 11. 

   Brad Newsome’s 18 points was team-best in the Lions 91-41 win over Rose Hill. Deboard had 11. Webb added 10. 

   Freshman Cole Hicks played only three minutes Saturday against Montgomery County in the Roundball Classic, but his production was all the Lions needed to hold on for a 72-67 win. Hicks drained a triple from the corner and hit two free throws to seal the win for the Lions after they gave up a 20-point, fourth quarter lead. Gibbs led the Lions with 15. Webb and Graden McNeil each had 13 and Deboard added 10. McNeil went a perfect 3 of 3 from beyond the arc. 

   Boyd County travels to East Ridge Tuesday and welcomes Ashland Saturday. 

 

ROSE HILL 0-9

   Rose Hill fell to Lewis County and Boyd County this week. 

   Stacy Jackson’s 19 points were not enough to lift the Royals over Lewis County as they fell 76-52. Tate Akers went 5 of 8 from long range for 15 points. Chase Pennington added 10. 

   Pennington was a perfect 3 of 3 beyond the arc and had a team-high 14 points in the Royals 91-41 loss to Boyd County. Jackson kicked in 11. 

   Rose Hill travels to Ashland Tuesday, welcomes Portsmouth Thursday and travels to Bath County Saturday. 

 

FAIRVIEW 1-6

   A pair of close contests left the Eagles on the short end after falling 47-42 to Greenup County and 52-51 to Bluegrass United. 

   Tanner Johnson was the lone Eagle in double figures in a loss to the Musketeers after dropping 15. 

   Jaxon Manning led the Eagles with 18 in the loss to Bluegrass United. Cody Caldwell had 12 points and nine rebounds. Johnson added 10. 

   Fairview welcomes Magoffin County Tuesday, travels to St. Patrick Friday and welcomes Green OH Saturday. 

 

RUSSELL 6-2

   After a tough loss on the road to Augusta to start the week, Russell bounced back with wins over Greenup County and Menifee County. 

   Griffin Downs led the Red Devils with a career-high 20 points and 15 rebounds in a 73-65 loss to Augusta. Brady Bell had 16. Charlie Jachimczuk added 15. 

   Bell led the Red Devils with 19 in a 66-46 win over Greenup County. Russell erased an eight-point deficit in the first quarter by outscoring Greenup County 25-8 in the second to take a double-digit lead to the locker room. Carson Patrick had a career high 15 points and Jachimczuk added 11. 

   Bell and Patrick once again paced the Devils in a 77-47 win over Menifee County. Bell had 21 while Patrick, Jachimczuk and Downs kicked in 12 each. 

   Russell will remain idle this week due to COVID-19 cancellations to their two scheduled opponents. 

 

GREENUP 

COUNTY 3-5

   A career high 20 points by Boone Gibson propelled the Musketeers to a 47-42 win over Fairview. 

   Trenton Hannah led the Musketeers with 13 points and 10 rebounds in their 66-44 loss to Russell. Gibson kicked in 11. 

   Greenup County welcomes Bath County Tuesday and travels to South Point on Saturday.
