This winter has been brutal for many of us; it has been a double whammy with cold, snowy weather and COVID-19 extending our cabin fever. After Easter, you can head out to the Boyd County Convention and Arts Center for their free public outdoor show.

This show has plans to be an annual event; it will feature many local businesses that make the outdoors a fun place to spend your time. There will be a little something for everyone, including the kids. However, most of these businesses you already know will have special deals on the items you care about.

The event will be held all weekend, beginning on Friday, April 9 from 5 to 8 p.m., continuing Saturday, April 10 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., and wrapping up on Sunday, April 11 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Admission will be free, and there will also be a raffle drawing and door prizes.

This show is your chance to see what’s hot and new for the outdoor enthusiasts. You also have an opportunity to get special deals as the season gets underway.

A partial list of vendors attending includes Borders Sporting Goods, Obrien’s Archery, Bare Arms, Stevens Gun Shop, Rockdale Boat Mart, Patriot RV Sales, Lake Allan Campground, Boyd County Parks, Freedom Outdoors, Smokin’ J’s, Kona Ice, Don Hall’s, and Pure Country. They are still locking down many other vendors at the writing of this article. You must come to see all of them as more are committing as I am compiling this list.

There will also be inflatables for the children with adequate spacing for people to keep a safe distance between vendors. Smokin’ J’s will have food on site all day on Saturday. Kona Ice will be there with the shaved ice drinks they are famous for and making it easy to spend the entire day.

Rockdale Boat Mart plans to have new Mercury Outboard motors onsite for you to inspect and make your best deals. The Boyd County Parks system will have an informational booth to answer questions and explain the opportunities for anyone visiting our area. Don Hall’s plans to have new trucks onsite to show you the latest models and how they can help you to get your next new truck. Patriot RV Sales will be there to talk to you about how they can put you into a new RV. I understand that some local tackle makers will show you their latest work and even how they are made.

If you want to get out and break that cabin fever, this is your chance to make plans to visit the Boyd County Convention and Arts Center. The Center is located on Route 3 and US-180, just past the Flying J’s restaurant. There will be plenty of parking at the carnival-like event, and it will be both out and inside the center.
