Are you looking for a program that empowers your daughter to grow in faith, build leadership skills, and explore new activities in a safe, Christ-centered environment? Look no further – American Heritage Girls (AHG) Troop KY2025 is here in Boyd County and ready to welcome girls ages five to 18.
Set to officially launch on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2024, at 5:30 p.m., Troop KY2025 will be holding its first meeting at the First Baptist Church Cannonsburg in Ashland, Kentucky, located at 11512 Midland Trail Rd. This exciting event will kick off a new season of activities designed to help young girls develop leadership abilities, discover their unique gifts, and grow in their Christian faith.
American Heritage Girls (AHG) was founded in 1995 by a group of parents in a northern Cincinnati suburb who were dissatisfied with how their scouting organization addressed faith and cultural issues. Their vision was to create a Christ-centered, service-oriented, and outdoor-focused program that would help girls grow in their faith while contributing to their communities. The first AHG Troop, made up of fourth and fifth grade girls, began from this vision, and the organization quickly expanded across the country as word spread about its values and mission.
AHG saw significant growth over the years, particularly in 2010 when it became the first all-girls program to partner with the Boy Scouts of America, though this partnership ended after BSA changed its membership standards. In response to the demand for a faith-based program for boys, AHG helped establish Trail Life USA. Today, AHG continues to thrive with the support of a nationwide network of parents dedicated to building women of integrity through service to God, family, community, and country. Tens of thousands of girls have been impacted by AHG’s ministry, and the need for a strong Christian organization to help girls develop their gifts and identity in Christ remains greater than ever.
The American Heritage Girls organization will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2025. Today, AHG operates nationwide, with troops across the country, including the first-ever troop in Boyd County, KY.
Troop KY2025 is open to all girls in the region between the ages of five and 18, and the group encourages both girls and their adult family members to get involved. Parents and guardians are invited to register and join alongside their daughters, allowing them to participate fully in all activities throughout the year.
“We’re so excited to introduce this organization to Boyd County,” said Cathy Crace, Troop Leader for KY2025. “This program offers more than just badge earning; it’s about building a foundation for life, rooted in faith, service, and fun. We’re proud to be part of such a meaningful mission.”
The troop will meet twice a month on the first and third Tuesdays, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., at First Baptist Church Cannonsburg. In addition to regular meetings, the troop will also participate in community service events and other fun-learning activities on weekends, where girls will work toward earning badges and awards.
“We want to give these girls opportunities to not only learn new skills but also make a difference in their community,” Crace explained. “Whether it’s camping, crafting, or volunteering, the girls will have plenty of chances to grow in all areas of their lives.”
The schedule for Troop KY2025 will occasionally adjust to accommodate holidays and other events, but all registered members will receive an updated calendar of activities at the start of each year.
