BOYS BASKETBALL RECAP WEEK 4

 

64th DISTRICT

 

ASHLAND 5-5

Ashland's Tyson LaLonde is fouled as he tries for the dunk against Walton-Verona.

Ashland opened the AIT with back-to-back wins over Walton-Verona, 61-58, and Harlan 72-57 and faced Danville Christian in the championship. The score was not available at press time.

 

Zander Carter led the Tomcats against Walton-Verona with 21 points followed by Drew Smith’s 17.

Ashland welcomes Corbin on Friday followed by a trip to Danville Christian on Saturday.

 








BOYD COUNTY 5-6

 

Boyd County went 1-1 on the week. The Lions bounced back from an 87-67 loss to Bryan Station on Friday with a 92-85 win over defending State Champion Lyon County Saturday  in WGM Holiday Tournament being held at Lexington Catholic. Boyd County faced Newport Sunday but the score was unavailable cause of an early deadline this week.

 

Jacob Spurlock had a game-high 33 points in the win over Lyon. Ethan Rardon added 18, Marcus Brumfield 12 and Jackson Childers 11. Boyd County connected on 17 threes.

 

The Lions next game will be Tuesday, January 7 at Crittenden County.

 

FAIRVIEW 1-8

 

Fairview picked up its first win of the year 63-46 against East Ridge in the Raceland Derby Classic.

 

Eli Shope paced the Eagles with 21 including five triples in the win. Jace Manning kicked in 15. Tanner Reihs grabbed 10 rebounds.

 

Fairview visits Chesapeake Monday and Raceland Friday.

 

63RD DISTRICT

 

GREENUP COUNTY 3-6

 

Greenup defeated Northwood Academy (Summerville), SC 51-40 in triple overtime and fell to Wilmington Christian Academy (Wilmington), NC 64-39. No stats were reported

 

Through Greenups first 7 games, Kasey Gammon leads the Musketeers averaging 14.9 points a game.

 

The Musketeers only game this week is Friday at Rowan County.

 

RACELAND 9-2

 

Raceland went 1-1 this week with a 57-50 win over Seymour, TN and a 62-50 loss to Colerain, OH. No stats were reported.

 

Raceland welcomes Fairview Friday.

 

RUSSELL 3-6

Russell's Tyler Cordial scores on a drive to the basket against Danville Christian.

Russell fell to Danville Christian, 55-33 and Highlands,76-66 in the AIT. The Devils faced Walton-Verona in an Ashland Invitational Tournament consolation game Sunday.

 

 

Caleb Rimmer led the Devils with 22 points and Ryder Burgess pitched in 15 against Highlands.

 

Russell welcomes Lewis County on Friday and Huntington Expression Prep Saturday.
