CHAMPIONSHIP

 

BOYD COUNTY 2 EAST CARTER 1

 

Boyd County had never won a girls’ soccer regional championship.

 

That streak came to an end Friday night when the Lady Lions defeated East Carter, 2-1 in the championship contest for their first ever regional crown as a member of the 12th or 16th region. Gracie Crowe and Faith Burnside each netted goals and Savanna Henderson assisted on one as the Lions took down the Raiders for the second time this season. Sophie Stevens tallied five saves in net.

 

Boyd County travels to play 15th Region champion Estill County Monday night in the opening round of the state tournament.

 

SEMIFINALS

 

BOYD COUNTY 4 ROWAN COUNTY 0

 

Faith Burnside had four goals in the Lions 4-0 shutout of Rowan County to advance to the regional championship. Aubree Moore and Addison Miller assisted in a pair of goals.

SEMIFINALS

 

ROWAN COUNTY 3 RUSSELL 1

 

Brylee Mullins netted the lone Russell score off a Trey Evans assist as the Red Devils fell 3-1 to Rowan County in the semifinals. Caden Hampton tallied three saves in net.

 

Russell closes its season at 12-9.

 

EAST CARTER 2 BOYD COUNTY 1

 

Cameron Stanton had the lone Lions goal as Boyd fell to eventual region champion East Carter, 2-1. Logan Bradley tallied eight saves in net.

 

Boyd closes its season at 10-9.
