Get Ready for the 2025 Repair Affair

A Day of Community, Care, and DIY Fun!

The Ashland Beacon

Mark your calendars, Ashland! The annual Repair Affair is coming your way on Saturday, May. 17, starting bright and early at 7:30 a.m. This amazing event brings the community together to help homeowners who might need a little extra support with repairs and lawn care. From storm damage to seasonal wear and tear, it’s the perfect opportunity to lend a hand—and maybe even learn something new in the process!

Every year, the city sees homes struggle with issues like overgrown lawns, missing gutters from the harsh snow season, and other wear-and-tear problems that some homeowners may not have the resources to fix. But here’s where Repair Affair steps in! This annual event provides a way for Ashland residents to come together and help out their neighbors—whether it’s cutting grass, fixing up a porch, or making homes more accessible.

This year, we’re taking things up a notch! The types of repairs available for the 2025 Repair Affair may include:

  • Home Accessibility: Making homes easier to navigate and safer for those who need it most.

  • Decks & Porches: Sprucing up outdoor spaces for relaxation and enjoyment.

  • Entryways: Making sure that doors and pathways are safe and inviting.

  • Small Roofing Jobs: Helping out with minor roof repairs.

  • Painting & Lawn Care: Adding some fresh paint and a little TLC to lawns that need it.

To qualify for assistance, homeowners need to meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must live in Ashland and own the home.

  • Must be at least 60 years old or have a certified disability.

  • Must fall within the low-income bracket (50% of the median income or lower).

When the sun rises on Saturday, May 17th, volunteers and homeowners alike will gather at Central Park by the central concession stand at 7:30 a.m. for check-in. The day kicks off with a quick briefing to set expectations and talk through what everyone will be tackling throughout the day.

And don’t worry—you’ll get your energy boost! Free breakfast and coffee will be available to keep everyone fueled and ready for action. As a thank-you for participating, all volunteers will receive a free t-shirt to wear throughout the day, along with plenty of opportunities to chat with staff and fellow volunteers about what’s to come.

Lunchtime will be a chance for everyone to recharge, with a free lunch provided by the event staff at the central concession stand. It’s a chance to relax and enjoy some good food before diving back into the work at hand!

We all know how unpredictable the weather can be in the spring, and the Repair Affair is no exception! From surprise showers to sudden temperature shifts, it’s always a good idea to be prepared. Whether it’s rain gear, comfy shoes, or an umbrella, packing for the weather will make sure you stay dry and comfortable throughout the day.

Hydration is key too! With all the hard work, you’ll definitely work up a sweat, so keep a water bottle handy. Protective gear like gloves, eye protection, and hearing protection (if you're working with power tools) will also be super helpful. Plus, dust masks can be a lifesaver, especially with all that fresh paint and lawn clippings filling the air with the sweet smells of spring cleaning.

The Repair Affair is a fantastic opportunity to give back to your community—and we need YOU! If you’re interested in volunteering, please reach out to the Community and Economic Development Department. You can contact them by phone at 606.385.3317 or by email at repairaffair@ashlandky.gov.

Let’s make this the best Repair Affair yet—together, we can help make Ashland shine!
