Where Fun Meets Tradition Next Week!

Mark your calendars and get ready for a week of excitement because the Greenup County Fair is just around the corner! Starting on August 27, the fairgrounds will come alive with vibrant colors, thrilling rides, delicious food, and a range of entertainment that promises fun for everyone. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a longtime fair-goer, the Greenup County Fair is the perfect place to immerse yourself in local culture and community spirit. Here’s a sneak peek into what you can look forward to at this beloved annual event.

   The fair gates will open up at 3 p.m. as it kicks off its pre-fair activities on August 24 with the highly anticipated Demolition Derby at 7:30 p.m. Who doesn’t love to see cars smashing into one another?

   Don’t forget to register for the Miss Greenup County Fair Pageant on Sunday, August 25 at 5:45 p.m. at the olé Pole Barn. Entry and weigh-ins for all livestock projects will also take place on this day from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

   Catch the livestock breeding show on Monday, August 26 at 9 a.m. Judging will take place at the show barn one hour after the conclusion of the livestock breeding show.

   Being the first official day of the fair, Tuesday, August 27 is packed full of good family fun that you don’t want to miss out on. From August 27 to August 31, the gates will open daily at 9 a.m. Rides begin daily at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday thru Friday. Admission is $10 and children under the age of three will get in for free. Wrist bands will be given to everyone at the gates and must be worn at all times.

   The day kicks off with some of your favorite 4H/FFA shows beginning at 9 a.m. and running until 5 p.m. Check the events schedule for more details on these shows. Opening ceremonies with County Judge Executive, Bobby Hall will take place at 6:30 p.m. Head on over to the dirt track after that to check out the “Dirt Drags and Short Course Racing” at 6:45 p.m.

   At 7 p.m. you will want to mosey on over to the Ole Pole Barn for the “Miss Greenup County Fair Pageant. Then at 8 p.m. you don’t want to miss the “Husband Calling Contest” and the “Mom & Dad Calling Contest” that will take place during the beauty pageant intermission.

Wednesday, August 28 is a big day for the youth of Greenup County. The day begins bright and early at 9 a.m. with the 4H/FFA Hog, Rooster, and Feeder Pig Show and Showmanship. This event will run until about 1 p.m.

   Registration for the “Baby Miss and Baby Mister” and “Little Miss and Little Mister,” pageants will take place from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Contestants will take the stage at 3:30 p.m.

   Registration for the “Miss Junior” and “Miss Teen Greenup County Fair,” will be open from 5 to 5:45 p.m. The pageant will take place at 6 p.m.

   The Greenup County Fair Horse Show will begin at 6:30 p.m. Registration for this event will be from 6  to 6:30 p.m.

   Don’t forget to check out the 4H/FFA Lamb and Goat Show and Showmanship from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 29. The Round Robin Showmanship event will take place at 1 to 2:30 p.m.

   Of course you can’t have a fair without some great music! On Thursday, August 29 catch the renowned Corey Neace, Charlie Woods & Deep Hollow, and Turning Ground for the Greenup County Fair’s Bluegrass night.

   If you are a motocross fan, then you won’t want to miss the big Motocross event at 7:30 p.m., also on Thursday. This event is sure to be a fan favorite with classes of all ages ranging from four years old and up.

   On Friday, August 30, be sure to register for the “Kids in the Races” event. Registration will take place from 5 until 6 p.m. with the main event beginning immediately after.

   Also happening Friday is Gospel night, which has always been a crowd favorite and is sure to be a big hit this year’s lineup. This year you can enjoy some great music from Sounds from the Gospel, Harvest Time, and Jerry Gray. The first show will begin at 6 p.m. at the Ole Pole Barn.

   The KITPA Tractor Pull and Truck Pull will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, August. 30. This event is a classic of the Greenup County Fair and is sure to offer good wholesome family entertainment for all to enjoy.

The Greenup County Fair’s last day will be Saturday, August 31 and is in no short supply of things to keep you entertained. The day starts off early in the morning with the Recognition of Skill-A-Thon and the Livestock Judging Winners at 9:30 a.m. in the show barn. At 10 a.m. the Livestock Sale of Grand Champions will take place. This sale will feature calves, feeder pigs, hogs, rabbits, poultry, lambs, and goats.

   The annual “Kids Day at the Pole Barn” will begin at 10 a.m. This event gives children a chance of winning cash prizes.

   Registration for the dog show will be open at 12:30 p.m. and the show will begin shortly after at 1 p.m. Who doesn’t love a bunch of four-legged fur babies prancing around? Be sure to check it out at the Ole Pole Barn.

   Barron Royster, a levelheaded young man that is wise beyond his years, with a passion for all things military, will have a military discussion and display to honor Veterans at 4 p.m.

   The final night of the fair will close out with its annual lawn mower race that will take place at 7 p.m. Registration for the lawn mower races will take place from 5 to 6 p.m.

   The Greenup County Fair is more than just an event - it’s a celebration of community. It’s a time when friends and neighbors come together to enjoy the best of what Greenup County has to offer. Your presence and participation contribute to the sense of camaraderie and community pride that makes the fair so special.
