This past Saturday, Jan. 25, Okey Wiley, a beloved member of the Rose Hill community, celebrated an incredible milestone—his 100th birthday. The occasion was marked by a heartfelt gathering in the cafeteria of Rose Hill Christian School, where family, friends, and well-wishers came together to honor a man whose life has been defined by his faith, loyalty, and tireless service to others.

Okey has always been a God-fearing man, steadfast in his love for his family, his church, and the school that has been so dear to him, Rose Hill Christian School. Over the years, Okey has made significant contributions to the institution, ensuring that many students have had the privilege of receiving a Christ-centered education. His impact on the school and its community cannot be overstated.

Tom Stephens, a longtime friend of Okey's, recalled, “Okey and I have been good friends for a long time. He has been a lifelong contributor to the school, and Okey has always loved to talk about his family and how they arrived here from overseas. He is just a great friend and person to know.”

Okey’s faithfulness and generosity extend far beyond his relationship with Rose Hill Christian School. His kindhearted spirit has left its mark on so many that are fortunate enough to call him a friend. Even Okey’s Cardiologist couldn’t miss out on the oppritunity to share Okey’s special day with him and remarked, “It’s always a pleasure to see him in the office. As Tom said, he’s been a great supporter of the school, and that means a lot to so many people here.”

Julie Phillips, another longtime friend, added, “I believe his impact has been great. He has influenced the lives of many children, giving them an opportunity to attend Christian school, and we are just so thankful for him and the blessing he has been to so many of us.”

Rose Hill Christian School’s marketing director, Telisa Perkins, recalled her first meeting with Okey after he lost his wife, Kathleen. She said, “My friend and I wanted to go over and talk with him to offer some comfort, but what we didn’t expect was that we would be the ones who were blessed by his company. He is the absolute sweetest person I think I’ve ever met in my entire life.”

Pastor Matt Shamblim, who has known Okey for many years, reflected on their conversations over the years... “Talking with Okey is like being able to access a window into the past. He is a good and consistent guy from a different era, and after knowing him for a decade, I can honestly say he’s a very interesting person. He can sit and talk for hours, and it’s fascinating—it’s like you’re getting a glimpse into the past.”

Okey's life is a testament to the power of faith, dedication, and kindness. A proud member of Rose Hill Church for many years, his contributions to the church and school have shaped the lives of countless individuals. Okey’s selflessness and unwavering support for others are qualities that have left its mark on the hearts of everyone who knows him.

During his birthday celebration on Saturday, Okey beamed with gratitude as he reflected on the love and support he’s received over the years. “I am just so blessed to have so many people that love me. God is good, and He has watched over me for 100 years,” Okey said, his smile as bright as ever.

As Okey celebrates this remarkable century of life, the community around him continues to be enriched by the legacy of his kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith. The contributions he has made to Rose Hill Christian School, to the church, and to those who have had the privilege of knowing him will not soon be forgotten. Okey Wiley’s life is a shining example of what it means to live with purpose, love, and devotion.

Here's to Okey Wiley—may the next 100 years be just as blessed.
